Bollywood star gets cricket stadium ban after row

May 20th, 2012

Mumbai cricket officials on Friday announced a five-year ban on Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan from the city’s main stadium after a late-night row with staff at the grounds.

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has filed a police complaint against Khan, co-owner of the Indian Premier League (IPL) team Kolkata Knight Riders, over the heated altercation on Wednesday night at Wankhede stadium.

“The ban was a unanimous decision,” MCA president Vilasrao Deshmukh told reporters in the city. “Action will be taken against whoever breaks the law.”

The MCA says Khan should not have entered the ground after the game, saying he misbehaved and used foul language when officials asked him to leave. They also tried to stop a group of children including Khan’s daughter from playing on the field.

“Even for us, there are rules of who should come in and who cannot,” said Deshmukh.

Khan, one of the biggest names in Bollywood, has denied accusations he was drunk or behaving illegally, saying he became angry when officials at the stadium abused him and “physically manhandled” the children.

The MCA’s parent body, the Board of Control for Cricket in India, will look into the “unprecedented case”, said its chief administrative officer Ratnakar Shetty.

“Never have we seen this kind of behaviour at any time on any (cricket) ground in India,” he said.

Bollywood stands by SRK

May 20th, 2012

Glamsham Editorial

Bollywood celebrities on Friday reacted to the ban imposed on Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan from entering Mumbai’s Wankhede stadium for the next five years.

The celebrities took social networking site to express their thoughts. Here’s what the celebs posted.

Suhel Seth: Banned SRK from a stadium? Even if they allege bad behaviour, it’s stupid! Do MPs get banned from Parliament when they fling microphones?

Juhi Chawla: If today SRK were to get upset and quit the IPL I wonder if there d be any people watching the matches .. In wankhede or any stadium !!!

Pritish Nandy: Banning can the last resort. Here, it is the first. A quick fix solution for everything. Movies, cartoons, books, songs, posters, now SRK.

Anubhav Sinha: Sorry traveling so delayed response… I heard Srk is banned from the stadium. So child manhandling is officially allowed there?

Raj Kundra: SRK Banned from a stadium?? Ridiculous punishment for a father protecting his children! I can see many celebs boycotting this stadium!

Anurag Basu: Srk’s behavior is completely justified ,I’d have smashed their heads if it was my daughter.

Karan Johar: Srk is one of the best fathers i know….and protective about every child…he was being just that….a protective parent!!!

Celina Jaitly: Speaking even as a new mother of twins When it comes to ones children a parent will go to any length to protect them ,srk is a good dad .

Sujoy Ghosh: Read about the SRK incident. I think @iamsrk was very decent about the whole thing. I’d have ripped their heads off if it was my daughter.

Anjana Sukhani: He’s a gentleman….unless provoked badly nobody reacts….

Bollywood star Shahrukh Khan banned from Mumbai stadium after brawl

May 18th, 2012

“I’m not drunk,” is right up there with “No disrespect” on my personal list of statements that almost always mean exactly the opposite of what they say.

So I’m a little suspicious of Bollywood star Shahrukh Khan’s explanation of his behavior during an altercation with security officials at a Mumbai cricket stadium this week. (Note the attached photographic evidence).

Apparently, I’m not the only one. The Mumbai Cricket Association on Friday banned Kolkata Knight Riders co-owner and Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan from entering the Wankhede Stadium for five years for misbehaving with its officials and violating its rules, the Times of India reports.

Meanwhile, it’s like a feeding frenzy on twitter, as fans go ape-kaka on the screen idol once best known as the Bollywood star who never cheated on his wife (even in rumor).

That too after the star claimed that he only went all Naomi Campbell on the security team because they were pushing around some little kids who’d run onto the field (including his daughter).

Mid-life crisis? We should have seen this coming when he broke out those six-pack abs.

Here’s what happened, in the words of “SRK” himself, reported in The Pioneer:

“They (security officials) aggressively towards me. I think that they never expected that I would retaliate to their highhanded behavior. They instead must have thought I would get scared and go away from the place… Some people are saying I was drunk. Everybody knows that I drink only socially and never drink at home. I was not drunk at all.”

Asked if he would apologize, the Bollywood star said: “They (security officials and MCA office-bearers) should apologize to me for the manner in which they behaved…. They were extremely high-handed .. If this is kind of treatment that is meted to people, I personally would not like to go there myself… I am extremely disturbed that they should manhandle children.”

“….. They manhandled little girls. I would not deny that I was abusive but it started when this gentleman came from behind said something foul in Marathi which I cannot repeat,” the actor said.

Apparently, that is why SRK looks so red-faced and puffy-eyed in the picture above. No explanation for the bed-head, though. And that’s what’s got my Spidey senses tingling.

Bollywood Child Star Killed in Plane Crash

May 16th, 2012

Fourteen-year-old Bollywood actress Taruni Sachdev died Monday in a
plane crash in Nepal, The
Hindu Times
reported. Sachdev was traveling with her sister and
mother on an Agni Air flight when the aircraft plunged into a
hillside, after having to abort a landing at the high-altitude
airport of Jomsom.

Sachdev’s sister and mother were also killed in the crash. They
were traveling as part of a group of Indians who had chartered the
flight for a pilgrimage to the holy shrine of Muktinath in the
Himalayas. A total of 15 people died in the accident; there are six
survivors.

Prominent Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan, who starred in the
2009 film “Paa” with Sachdev, paid tribute to the deceased actor on
Twitter.

“SHOCKED and very saddened to hear about the Nepal plane crash.
Lost 1 of my cutest co-stars. Little Taruni Sachdev from PAA.
Speechless,”
Bachchan tweeted
on Tuesday.

“Just reading that Taruni Sachdev the girl child artist in Paa, has
perished in Nepal plane crash…please God may this not be true,”
actor Amitabh
Bachchan tweeted
earlier.

Sachdev was a rising child star in the Hindi and Malayalam film
industries. She had been featured in many television advertisements
and in films like “Vellinakshatram” and “Satyam,” both of which
were directed by her uncle, Vinayan T.G.

“She was an extraordinary child, full of life,”
Vinayan told the Times of India
. “She was always with me all
through ‘Vellinakshatram.’ It is shocking that she is no
more.”

And a couple of months ago, Sachdev was shooting a commercial when
she called Vinayan and told him she wanted to be in his next film.
“I told her that we will definitely meet to speak about it,”
Vinayan said. “She said, ‘Thank you, uncle.’ And those were her
last words to me.”

Project to give Mumbai a Bollywood mural makeover

May 16th, 2012

MUMBAI (Reuters) – The raven-tressed heroine stares adoringly at the handsome Mughal prince, who gazes lovingly back at her – from where they are painted on a Mumbai wall.

The mural of the classic Bollywood filmAnarkali” is the brainchild of a pair of movie buffs, who hope to give Mumbai a distinct Bollywood identity through a series of murals, aiming for the iconic appeal of the “Hollywood” sign in California.

The mural from Anarkali, a 1953 film about a doomed love affair between the prince and a commoner, is just the first of many the pair, and their Bollywood Art Project, hope to create all over the city.

“Mumbai is the home of Bollywood, but it has no Bollywood flavor,” said Ranjit Dahiya, who started the project with his friend, Tony Peter. “We wanted to change that.”

They zeroed in on a wall in the posh suburb of Bandra, home to several Bollywood stars, and asked for permission to paint the 6 meter (20 foot) Anarkali mural, fully expecting to be rebuffed.

“But they had no problem at all,” Dahiya told Reuters. “They happily handed over their wall to us for fourteen days and let us paint.”

Over the weekend, the Art Project also screened the film with the wall as a backdrop, hoping to educate youngsters and help them relive Bollywood’s golden past.

“We have a lot of indications around Mumbai of what Bollywood is today, in terms of posters of latest releases, but there is no indication of where we came from,” Peter said.

The group aims to paint several such murals and put up posters all over Mumbai in the coming year, culminating in celebrations in May 2013 to mark 100 years of Indian cinema.

Their next project is an 18 meter (60 foot) tall depiction of popular 1970s actress and dancer Helen.

Peter says he hopes to recruit more of India’s poster painting stars into the project, indirectly helping workers skilled in the once-flourishing art of hand-painted, larger-than-life posters, who have been struggling in recent years.

Both Dahiya and Peter have regular day jobs in design but say their project has become an all-consuming hobby.

But in a city notorious for its lack of civic sense and where most walls are adorned with tobacco and betel leaf stains, aren’t they worried about the fate of their masterpieces?

Dahiya says no.

“I can’t sit and worry about people spitting on my art,” said the 32-year-old. “I’ve made it for the people, so how they treat it is up to them.”

Bollywood actors Suniel Shetty and Arunoday Singh feel every day is Mother’s Day and it is important to express gratitude to your mum daily.

Ahead of Mother’s Day Sunday, a few B-town celebrities spoke about the day:

Suniel Shetty: For me all 365 days a year is Mother’s Day because she is the reason for everything that happens in your life. Love you Ma!

Dia Mirza: Each day is incomplete without your mother. We all know that mother’s love is selfless, no one can equal what a mother does for her child. It’s the most beautiful form of love.

Aditi Rao Hydari: My mother is the most important person in my life. Whatever she has taught me about life will always stay with me, and I am thankful to her for being the person she is.

Arunoday Singh: Every day is Mother’s Day. If I call her up on one special day to say Happy Mother’s Day, she will get very angry with me for only calling on just one day.

Yuvika Chaudhary: For every mother, her child always remains a child, however old you grow.

Javed Ali (Singer): No one will live forever. Instead of missing her after she has gone, it is better to love and respect her while she is still with you.
